What Is Tuckpointing?

Brick tuckpointing, also known as repointing, comprises two main steps.

The first step is grinding the mortar joints at least 1″ or deeper. After the joints are ground down, we apply new mortar, which will bond to the existing. Some companies cut corners by skim-coating new mortar over the old, but this doesn’t fix the problem because there is not enough space to allow the new mortar to bond properly, and it will fall out in a few years.

Next, Force Masonry Construction takes the appropriate measures to clean the joints out, which could mean blowing them out or hosing them out so that the new mortar can grab onto the brick and only the brick. We ensure no excess dust is left behind to create a slip or loose bond.
