Let Us Do the Heavy Lifting

Here’s the hard truth about the concrete around your home or business — it won’t stay perfect forever. Damage like cracks and lifting is easy to notice, but it’s also easy to ignore. If left alone, you could be looking at a hazardous situation for your family, friends, and neighbors, and even your cars. Force Masonry Construction offers concrete leveling and lifting services in several areas around the home, including driveways, garage floors, sidewalks, patios, pool decks, porches, garden paths, and basement floors.

Polyjacking vs. Mudjacking

When choosing a method for concrete leveling, your two options are polyjacking and mudjacking. While both options will get the job done, some differences are important to how well and how long the repair will last.

Polyjacking uses high-density polyurethane expanding foam to lift and level concrete slabs. The material and equipment used are very similar to what is used for spray foam insulation. However, the foam used for lifting concrete has a much stronger formulation. The first step in polyjacking is to drill small holes in the damaged concrete slab. Once the holes are drilled, high-density foam is sprayed underneath the slab, which then expands to fill voids and lift the concrete slab back to its original position. The foam we use can expand up to 7 feet at each injection point and will harden to create a permanent repair for your concrete slab.

Mudjacking is a method for concrete leveling that uses sand, cement, and other materials to raise and level a slab. The materials are mixed into a slurry and pumped into drilled holes like polyjacking. Mudjacking is best suited for concrete in good condition but no longer level. However, there are many projects where mudjacking is not the best choice as the slurry can erode over time.

Force Masonry Construction uses polyjacking for concrete leveling whenever possible because it won’t degrade over time, has a high resistance to temperature changes, and is a permanent fix for sinking concrete around your home or business.

What Causes Sinking Concrete?

Problems with your concrete will only get worse as they are left untreated. Because they typically develop and worsen slowly, problems with your concrete can be easily overlooked, but repairing damaged concrete at your home or business as soon as you notice the signs is important. Some of the main causes for sinking concrete include soil erosion, poor backfill compaction, and soil shrinkage. These problems are often invisible to the naked eye and are overlooked until they cause issues around your home.

The most common issue facing concrete slabs in the Central Illinois area is soil erosion. This occurs when water runs through cracks and joints in your slabs and washes out the soil from underneath. The voids caused by soil erosion often cause settlement and cracks that need to be repaired as soon as possible. Other signs you may need concrete leveling services include:

  • Cracked concrete
  • Uneven sidewalk
  • Poor water drainage
  • Excessive settlement of slabs
